All eligible voters in Portage County should be aware that another voter purge has occurred in Ohio.  More than 1,600 voters in our county have been removed from the voter register. This could be for many reasons, including no voting activity in the past four years, incorrect addresses on the official record, etc.

J. Derthick updated the trustees on the Hankee Road culvert project. The culvert pipe arrived and is in place. It arrived on six trucks! Base gravel is now being installed.

A deputy in the Portage County Sheriff’s Office was indicted on two counts of rape by a Cuyahoga County grand jury for an incident that took place Oct. 19 in Lyndhurst.

Portage County voters can find out how recent changes in Ohio election laws will affect them at three public meetings that will take place March 27, 29 and 30 in Ravenna, Aurora and Kent.

Who doesn’t love a good dog story? And I found some good ones!

After over 33 years in public service, County Auditor Janet Esposito retired on March 10. To celebrate the milestone, her friends and colleagues will honor her at a retirement reception at 5 p.m. March 30 at the Kent American Legion Hall, 1945 Mogadore Road.

So a coyote, three crows and 22 deer walk into their neighborhood bar, probably Ray’s Place.  

The nonprofit has been helping children in Portage County for decades, but it’s been doing so with no home base. LoveLight, therefore, is looking to transform a former church at 1541 S. Water St. in Kent into a model intergenerational child development and lifelong learning center.

I discovered a new treasure a few weeks ago when I was perusing Facebook and noticed a post about a newly opened store, Scott Farm Market and Greenhouse at 1977 Meloy Road.
