Kent City Council voted Wednesday to jettison its contract with the Portage County recycling center, choosing to start biweekly recycling pickup with Republic Services, which placed a cheaper bid and already handles the city’s weekly trash collection.

Palmyra’s annual Spring Cleanup will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, June 2 and 7:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 3 at the Palmyra Fire Department at 3956 state Rte. 225.

Naomi was born 1922 in Grove City, Ohio, in a log cabin. She met the love of her life, Louie, and they married in 1947. They moved to Akron and then to Suffield in 1948. They rented the Wingfoot Lake Hatchery for a while, then bought the business. Sadly, Louie passed away in 1991, but Naomi continued to run the business until in 1996. At age 75, she sold the Hatchery. She said it took long hours and was very hard work to run the business.

The mayor started her report by thanking the council for supporting the necessary improvement of putting new windows in Town Hall by Akron Window Company, and  with finishing work expected to be completed by mid-week.

With about $11,000 in seed money, the Rotary Club of Kent is poised to put its plans for a local Safety Town into action.

David Nagella, formerly of Ravenna, and wife Candy came from Texas for a short visit in April. Since he has a lot of family in this area, we Nagellas got together for breakfast so we could all visit with the couple.

Cihan completed a NOPEC (Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council) grant application and received an acknowledgement that it had been received by the deadline. Approval is pending.

The Aurora Police Department will purchase new body cameras to replace the previous ones leased through an Arizona-based police tech company, Axon.

Since Dave and I moved to this house 27 years ago, we’ve tried to replace any trees that we took down or that came down on their own. I don’t want to mow around a forest, but we don’t want to desecrate the land, either.
