Several students from Southeast High School’s band and choir recently participated in the All-Ohio State Fair Band and Choir during the Ohio State Fair. Five of the choir members were also chosen to be Scarlet Singers and opened for the band Foreigner. Several alumni also made it back to perform with the band and choir as well.

The Portage County Randolph Fair’s grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony took place at the main gate of the county fairgrounds 11 a.m. Tuesday to kick off the near week-long festivities.

There was a huge turnout for the Waterloo Back to School Bash. Besides having a dedication ceremony for the new track and performances by the Waterloo marching band, many wellness organizations were present to share about the services they provide. All proceeds from the PTO raffle went to the Hayes family.

The geese flocks are growing. Go to any open grassy space or harvested field and you’ll witness this phenomenon. They can also be seen flying in formation. Are they migrating already? Isn’t this early? If they are leaving, why do their numbers keep growing?

The Garrettsville Curtains up Theatre announced that for its 20th anniversary in January 2026, it will do a production of “Phantom of the Opera.” This is the non-musical adaptation from the book. Watch for more information on auditions.

The installation of the pickleball courts is on schedule with the installation of fence posts. Akerley met earlier with Tim Perrin of Perrin Asphalt on the Hudson Road repaving project.

Portage County recently celebrated the achievements of its 4-H youth participants at the Portage County 4-H Life Skills Awards at the conclusion of judging for the Life Skills Projects in July. The awards recognize the exceptional dedication and hard work of the county’s 4-H members.

Anyone wishing to go solar in Streetsboro will have to wait: City Council on Aug. 11 extended its moratorium on solar facilities another six months while it finalizes an amendment to the zoning code.
