Senior Life: Portage Parks Senior Hikes and PARTA perks

Following my column last month, I received a phone call from Chris Craycroft, executive director of Portage County Parks. She reminded me that our county parks system does offer a few hiking excursions which are geared for our senior neighbors. Twice a month, they offer “Senior Hikes” at local parks that are ADA accessible. These are slower-paced walks appropriate for all ages, plus a park staff member always accompanies the group.

Around Ravenna: Former Immaculate Conception priest Rev. Carl Kish retires

The Rev. Carl Kish is being honored with a retirement reception on Sunday, June 25, beginning with celebration of Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Robert Bellarmine Church in Cortland. The reception will follow from noon to 4 p.m. After 61 years as a priest in the Diocese of Youngstown, Rev. Kish is retiring on July 1. Friends and former parishioners are all invited to attend.

Portage County Solid Waste Management District will make its final Kent pickup this week

The Portage County Solid Waste Management District will make its last scheduled Kent rounds this week and pick up residents’ recycling bins immediately after emptying them. Republic Services, which already provides trash collection to Kent, will begin dispersing its recycling totes this week and assures residents that its collection days will remain the same.
