Around Garrettsville: Column returns for year 24

It is great to be back to writing about our great community. When I was asked to write the Around Garrettsville article again, I had to stop and think, how many years have I been writing this article. Funny how I could not recall the year I started. Laura, the editor of the “Around” articles thought it was 23 years. So here I am, year 24 bringing you all the wonderful events in Garrettsville. Memorial Day is behind us, but the summer is just starting. The Village of Garrettsville held two beautiful ceremonies for Memorial Day with Mayor Rick Patrick, Iva Walker, Dr. Michael Carlson, John Kable and the Rev. David Gray speaking to the audience (photo). The memorials started on Maple Street, then a parade led everyone down to the cemetery. The James A Garfield Band kept the parade in step through town and into the cemetery. Once inside the cemetery, the parade marched solemnly to the drum line’s cadence. “Taps” echoed through the cemetery as spectators remembered the fallen. Many tears were shed for those who sacrificed the most, for us to stand in peace, on The Land of the Brave.
