I recently read a newspaper article about the current senior citizens census numbers in our country. And of course, I cannot find that article now to share with you, but I did go to the Regional Planning site on my computer to locate our place in Portage County. Well, we have done it! There are more of us over the age of 65 (18.3% of our population), than there are children under the age of 18 years (17.9%).

For the past two years, Morgan Schweitzer, 17, of Mogadore, has been attending equestrian competitions in Northeast Ohio with a young Arabian mare that was rescued from a slaughter truck in 2019.

The Suffield League will hold its annual “Welcome Santa” at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10 inside the Town Hall at 1262 Waterloo Road. There will be cookies and other finger foods, punch and cocoa. And, of course, Santa will be there for the children.

The Portage County Board of Elections released unofficial results of the Nov. 7 elections on Sunday. Results on state-wide issues 1 (abortion) and 2 (cannabis) and county-wide levies 29 (developmental disabilities), 30 (mental health), and 31 (parks) show both familiar and unexpected geographic patterns.

Assistant Chief Don Hanna was recently honored at a ceremony held at the Charlestown Volunteer Fire Department. The ceremony marked his retirement after 45 years of service to the fire department. Approximately 40 people were in attendance to thank Hanna for his dedication to protecting the residents of Charlestown.

I’d like to start this month by thanking two important groups. Veterans Day is acknowledged every November, and veterans have one of the most important jobs in our country. Thank you for all your dedication and service.
