Charlene Rohal, a dedicated 4-H volunteer from Portage County, has achieved a milestone worthy of celebration. She was inducted into the prestigious Ohio 4-H Hall of Fame on March 8th at the Ohio 4-H Conference in Columbus. It is in recognition of her outstanding service, commitment, and impact on the 4-H community and youth over four decades.

First, Brian Miller reported that the roads are in good condition. Winter weather has been harsh this year, and winter storms have been handled well by the storm team. Salt supply is adequate for the end of the season. A contract to chip and seal roads is prepared for spring or summer.

A March 6 Property Tax Summit at Kent’s American Legion, which was promoted as an educational event on property taxes, was in fact a conservative rally to eliminate property taxes and defund public schools.

The Village of Hiram Council formed a task force a while back for the revitalization of the downtown. That group continues to meet. Two Hiram College student groups — a total of five students doing a senior capstone project and also a semester project — will be contributing to the venture by collaborating with the task force.

It’s March, and spring is in the air, literally. No matter if the month came in like a lion or a lamb, look and listen to the skies for vernal evidence. Harbingers of spring are winging their way north as you read this. And no, I’m not talking about robins. Robins don’t actually migrate; they stay in Portage County year-round. So that ‘first robin of spring’ sighting isn’t something to get all worked up about.

People close to Charles “Chuck” Kocisko — and those who only knew his reputation as a public servant of Streetsboro — have shared their appreciation and condolences following his death in January.

Late July, 1983. I was camped out on the bed in my mom and dad’s room, my leg sporting a cast from the foot to the knee and propped up on some pillows, and sweat dripping from every pore in my body in the sweltering heat of the little bedroom, which, thanks to the fact our house didn’t have air conditioning, was like sitting in a blast furnace.

Aurora held its annual State of the City event Feb. 26 at the Bertram Inn and Conference Center, where Mayor Ann Womer Benjamin was one of the featured speakers.

The Ravenna City Council meeting began with an employee from the Reed Memorial Library presenting the library’s 2024 success. The spokesperson described the new services the library offers, such as Roku Sticks, museum tickets, cake pans and more for civilians to check out.

Maplewood Career Center and The Renaissance Family Center have teamed up to make a meaningful impact on the Windham community. The Renaissance Center has always offered support to the citizens of Windham, but its reliance on donations resulted in a growing list of repairs.

This letter is in response to recent comments made by community members regarding the Ravenna School District not having a workable plan to make our schools more viable and financially sound.

For the first time in eight years, Waterloo Junior and Senior High School in Atwater has a theater program — all thanks to community support, parent and teacher volunteers and a passionate mother who, as she admits, doesn’t really like musicals.

How do chickens stay fit? They eggs-ercise! Speaking of chickens, is anyone else wondering what egg-actly is going on with the price of eggs? After some eggs-haustive research, I am still not an egg-spert, but let me try to eggs-plain what I have learned.
