In an effort to address a statewide trend of declining enrollment, Kent State University will soon undergo big changes to reorganize its academic affairs division and better its finances in the form of its Transformation 2028 initiative.

The annual Carl Wadsworth Memorial Day Breakfast will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday, May 26 at Edinburg United Church at 4081 Rock Spring Rd. Pancakes and sausage will be served on a love donation.

I smoked my first cigarette the summer before high school, rolled with American Spirit tobacco a friend had swiped. We sat under the sun, curious and rebellious, and I got a buzz that felt delightfully lightheaded and pleasant— almost invigorating. By fall, I was posted up on “the hill” behind the school parking lot with the rest of the misfits, lighting up before first bell and again at lunch. I wasn’t trying to fit in—I never did. I was loud, dramatic, and voted “most unique” more times than I can count. But like so many others, my first act of rebellion turned into a chemical leash I’ve been dragging around ever since.

Ohio State Rep. Steve Demetriou (R-Bainbridge Twp.) is now engaged with a new opportunity, announcing he will run for Ohio Senate in the November 2026 special election.

Of the three bridges in Aurora that had structural issues, two have been replaced with new bridges during the last two years. The third, an 80-foot ravine bridge by the Paddock River Preserve that goes across the Chagrin River, was just approved to be built by Jagger Construction at a cost of $397,703.

Clubhouse Brady Lake, 2036 Walton Road, will be hosting the Ravenna Lions Car/Motorcycle Cruise-In from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 19. The event is $10 per vehicle, but free for spectators, and features free hot dogs and chips and Bailey behind the bar. There will be raffle baskets as well.

Before Covid my daughter and I journeyed to the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. to see Matilda. When we heard Waterloo students would be performing The Matilda Musical we knew we had to see this.

Ordinances were passed to approve several major purchases, including three new 2025 Dodge Durangos for the Streetsboro Police Department, as well as the purchase, training, housing and supplies for the police department’s new K-9. Insurance will reimburse the department for these costs due to the loss of the previous K-9. 

I was all set to write this as soon as the 2025 NFL Draft ended, but I figured: A. I’d let the dust settle a little bit, and B. Browns fans were crowding the ledge after the Shedeur Sanders pick so better to make sure everyone had gotten safely back inside.
