We look forward all year long to the beginning of camp season. Literally from the minute it closes in the fall, we start making plans for next year. We’ve been at our campground for just over 20 years now. This is our third site and fifth camper, but I think we’ve got the best set-up now that we’ve ever had.

Scrapping property taxes in the great state of Ohio is a terrible idea for any number of reasons (how do you replace $24 billion in revenue?).  But I don’t blame the voters for being up in arms about their rising property tax burden.

Edinburg United Church will hold its Vacation Bible School from 6 to 8 p.m. each night from July 7-11. This year’s theme is “True North: Trusting Jesus in a Wild World” and is open to kids entering kindergarten through eighth grade. Activities will include games, crafts and stories that point kids to Jesus. Edinburg United Church is located at 4081 Rock Spring Rd.

U.S. Rep. Emilia Sykes (D-Akron) and U.S. Rep. Dave Joyce (R-Bainbridge Township) have taken opposite stances on the Republicans’ federal budget reconciliation bill — dubbed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

Atwater Fire Department Chief Jason Brock presented information on the increasing call volume the department is facing (there were 51 incidents in May). Data showed the need for the station to be staffed from 4 to 10 p.m. as this is the second-busiest call time after the 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. time slot.

The Sip N Shop is just around the corner set for noon to 6 p.m. July 26 on Main Street in Garrettsville.

The Randolph Lions intertwined a diversity of local groups into a meaningful Memorial Day parade honoring the 700 veterans buried within Randolph. Allie Makin, Waterloo senior, gave a thought-provoking speech at the memorial service. The morning concluded with the adorning of local veterans with Quilts of Valor.

Every summer about this time, Japanese beetles descend upon our communities and begin to skeletonize leaves, flowers and fruits of many different plants.
