As of April 20, there will be a new chief in town! Captain Christopher Adkins will become Brimfield’s interim police chief, pending an employment agreement to offer him the full-time position.

Instead of approving an outright ban of solar and wind farms in eight townships, Portage County’s Board of Commissioners have opted to consider them on a case-by-case basis.

“We’re just in the infancy stages,” Eldreth said. “Data centers are becoming real popular, so we’re just trying to figure out how to zone them.”

Daniel Lajack, a former Portage County Sheriff's deputy who retired Sept. 28, 2025 was three months in jail for detaining an immigrant he thought was in the U.S. illegally, reports the Akron Beacon Journal.

County officials were told last month Congressman Dave Joyce’s office had scored $2 million in U.S. EPA grant money to help property owners in Ravenna Township’s Chinn Allotment, but who will get how much remains a mystery.

Immaculate Conception Parish is hosting Spring Fling Music Bingo from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 25 for all the southern Portage County parishes. The event will be held at the I-C Hall at 251 W. Spruce Ave. in Ravenna. Tickets are $25.

Edinburg United Church would like to welcome its new pastor, Danny DeMarco. He and his wife, Rene, will live in the parsonage as he begins this new chapter of ministry with the church.

This is a chance for us to take a look around and “give our thanks” to all of our neighbors who give of their time and energy to help improve the community in which we live. A woman arrested by Portage County deputies March 10 following an all-night manhunt has been deported, according to a jail official in Mahoning County, where she was being held.

Our first backyard contained one Bradford Pear (later destroyed in a storm) and a topped white pine. Over 25 years we added trees, shrubs, perennials, a pergola, and two water features. Leaving the now shaded, full yard made my heart stop for a moment. After digging a few perennials to share at the PCMGV plant sale and telling the new owners to call with any questions, we moved on from our first home.
